Featured on Instructables!

You may have noticed from the new link on my sidebar, and our Facebook page, or my Instagram, but my DIY Raised Bed Planter was featured on Instructables! This is a huge accomplishment, and I am SO EXCITED!! If you couldn't tell!

So, I just wanted to pop on over here to announce that, and to tell you that on Sunday, I finally mixed up some potting soil, dirt, and garden mix, and planted some delicious herbs in my planter.

My hands were covered in dirt, so I don't have any pictures of the planting process, but I must tell you that I did end up using newspaper (it was actually packing paper, which is just unprinted newsprint) and put about 6 layers in the bottom of the planter.  So far, it's holding up great!

I ended up planting Basil, Oregano, Parsley, Chives, Rosemary, and Garlic!  These are my absolutely favorite herbs, so having them so handy will be awesome.

And as of yesterday, I have my first sprout! EEEEKKK!!!! I can't believe that it only took three days for something to sprout!

My first Sprout! (It's there, I promise - right above center!) / Personal Picture

As you can see from the picture, it's almost microscopic, and my nose was practically touching the dirt while I was looking for evidence that I actually planted something, but it's still there!

I'm really hoping that I start to get some serious progress on the growing front, and maybe if these start growing really well, I'll start building that second planter sooner than anticipated!

Have any of you built the planter, or had success with your herb or vegetable garden yet?

Hey there, found your blog through ICLW. :) Congrats on having your planter featured...that is awesome. We have two raised beds that we built ourselves two years ago (pre-made kits are so expensive!). Planted veggies two weeks ago and have sprouts! So excited for spring to finally be here.

Hi from ICLW, and happy planting/growing. The planter looks great, and practical -- no bending over! I have just a little patio garden myself, but it's still one of my favorite places to spend time.

Hi Liz! Thanks for stopping by! What kinds of vegetables are you planting? I'm interested in seeing what types grow best in the raised beds. I'm hoping to build another planter for veggies since this one is mostly for herbs, but I'm concerned about the depth of the box and what the vegetables will require for root growth. Any suggestions?

Hello,
I'm a bit disturb in finding this post and the post on instructables. This is my plan from my Ana White account https://www.ana-white.com/woodworking-projects/counter-height-garden-boxes-janet-fox?page=0, as well as from my blog posted in 2012 https://handywomanshop.blogspot.com/2012/09/build-your-own-counter-height-garden-box.html
I see you said "inspired by Ana White design" but you made absolutely no changes to my plans. You just took pictures of your build following my plans. Not sure how you could feel like this is a huge accomplishment taking credit like they are your plans. If so, everyone who built the garden should be able to feel the same way and post it on their blog and take credit for my plans. Please take down the instructable instructions or at a minimum at least reference my blog and my post on the Ana White site! And that what you did was build from my plans. It is really discouraging seeing someone take credit for my design and getting excited for my plans being featured on Instructables!
Regards,
Janet Fox
