The Rhode to The Rest of Our Lives: Trying not to Cry

The transition from Ludacris to our first dance song was very drastic, as I expect most introduction to first dance song transitions would be.  But, it was a part of the day that I was looking forward to the most.  After spending hours at work listening to songs in iTunes, I finally came across one that meant something special.  D and I don't really have "a song" that defines our relationship. We both like many different genre's of music, and while my favorite artist is Josh Groban, D's is Phil Collins. I didn't want to choose songs from either of those artists, so finding something that would match criteria was pretty hard.

But one thing that we have in common is that we both love awesome 80s songs.  And we would play them almost non-stop on our 12+ hour road trips during the holidays.  So, I narrowed my music to the 80s, and then one day it came on my playlist.  And so I put it onto my iPad, and played it for D in the car on the way home from work that afternoon.  And the entire time, we both had the biggest smiles on our faces, and we were holding hands and singing along to the song.  And I knew that that was going to be our first dance song.

So, without further ado, please hit play on the YouTube video below:

Chicago - You're the Inspiration

Yes, I know the video is weird - it was the 80s. Not much I can do about that! / YouTube

I could see a smile come upon our guests faces when the song began, because I don't think that they were expecting us to choose a song that was actually older than we both were! It was a pleasant surprise, and other than that moment, I only remember singing to D, him singing back to me, dancing with my husband, and just the overwhelming feeling of love, forming as tears in my eyes.  Nothing else mattered in that moment.  It was just he and I.  And it's a good thing, too, because I hate dancing in public and in light. I know, I'm weird.

Our first dance as a married couple. And it couldn't have been more perfect.

How did you choose your first dance song? Did you take dance lessons? Did you choreograph a dance?
